A closer look at the trio of Retractable Detectable Markers that have now joined Retreeva’s range of Detectable Equipment.
Here at Retreeva, it’s essential that our range of Detectable Products expands to reflect the specific needs of the food production industry. That is why, following a surge in requests for a superior selection of Retractable Detectable Markers, we are launching three new designs:
As well as offering all the expected qualities of retractable detectable pens, the three new markers have also been designed to resolve a number of industry pain points. You can assess their key attributes using the table below:

Retractable Permanent Marker
From product packaging and identification tags to ingredient containers and dispensers, permanent markers can be used to write on a wide range of surfaces. As a result, they support food production operatives with essential tasks such as the segregation of ingredients, the identification of equipment, and the management of rejected product.
Available in blue, red, green, or black non-toxic ink, Retreeva’s new Retractable Permanent Marker features a food contact approved, shatter-resistant housing that is both x-ray and metal detectable. This is an important point to note, as Clause 4.9.6.2 of Version 9 of the BRCGS Global Food Safety Standard asks sites to consider the use of stationery items that are “detectable by foreign-body detection equipment”.
It is also worth noting that the marker boasts a capless, retractable design that prevents the nib from drying out, whilst eliminating the need for a lid. Again, this relates to audit compliance, with Clause 4.9.6.2 also encouraging the use of stationery items that have been “designed without small external parts”.
Retractable Dry-wipe Marker
The Retractable Dry-wipe Marker is typically used to write on non-porous surfaces – reserved for information that needs to be updated on a frequent basis. At a food production site, examples include white boards, task lists, and production schedules. A pen like this could also be used to write directly onto non-food items such as containers and dispensers that are used to house different ingredients each cycle.
As with the Retractable Permanent Marker, Retreeva’s Dry-wipe Markers are available in blue, red, green, or black non-toxic ink. They also sit within the same housing and feature the same capless, retractable design.
As you would expect, the key difference is the type of ink being used. You will also notice that the nib of the marker is slightly rounder, instead of drawing in to a point.
Retractable Fluorescent Highlighter
Finally, the Retreeva range of Detectable Pens now includes a new style of Retractable Fluorescent Highlighter. Available in a fluorescent yellow, non-toxic ink, this marker helps food production teams to carry out internal audits and keep track of paper checklists – drawing attention to any data that requires further investigation.
Again, the Fluorescent Highlighter sits within the same housing as the other two markers and boasts the same retractable, capless design. However, the nib of the pen is slightly different, featuring a chisel writing tip for increased accuracy and ease of use.
